Description
The Azden i-Coustics® PRO-XD is an easy to use and affordable digital wireless lavalier microphone system for camera mounting and mobile video applications. Its compact and lightweight design is a great solution for capturing audio on the go. Perfect for video production, electronic news gathering and even mobile devices, the PRO-XD includes an adapter cable for compatibility with headset inputs on most modern smartphones and tablets!
Utilizing digital wireless technology, the PRO-XD operates in the 2.4 GHz range which is completely free of TV and radio interference. The PRO-XD out performs similarly priced VHF systems with better than CD quality digital audio and delivers dependable operation out to a distance of 100 feet or beyond with direct line of sight. Set up is a breeze with automatic syncing between receiver and transmitter. Internal, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries provide long lasting operation and easy charging via USB.
Designed to deliver high-fidelity audio, the receiver’s high gain output with volume control alleviates noise and hiss produced by low-quality camera preamps and eliminates the need for big adjustments in post production. The PRO-XD’s transmitter uniquely includes an auxiliary line input, allowing you to wirelessly transmit any stereo, line level audio source and mix it with the microphone source if desired.
With its incredibly small form factor, the PRO-XD is the first viable digital wireless audio solution for use with action cameras, such as the popular Hero® series from GoPro® (3rd party cable may be required for connection).
The complete PRO-XD system includes the transmitter, receiver and specially designed lapel microphone as well as an adapter cable for mobile devices, an audio output cable, USB cable and AC adapter for charging. The receiver can be adapted for XLR audio inputs by using our MX-R1 cable (be advised that many 3rd party solutions are not wired appropriately).

I recently purchased the pro-xd system and have been very happy with it’s performance. It performs very well in various recording environments. Good connection range. For the money, it was a very good purchase.

I bought 4 sets of Pro XDs different times and I own 3 sets used for church service and church conferences video live-streaming. Love this system, sound sharp and clear (I’m a hobby user/ like to use like pro).

I’ve been using my two Pro-XD systems for about three years now. As an event videographer, I value the quick setup time of the Pro-XD and how easily it is to conceal the transmitter (Tx) unit compared to the bulkier systems from Sony, Rode and so on…and the performance has been very reliable. I love the quick automated pairing of the unit when you switch the Tx and receiver (Rx) on…
I do find the bundled microphone has too high a noise level for my ears, but the optional EX-507XD upgraded microphone addresses this issue. Wish that Azden just folded the EX-507XD into the package as the standard microphone, but the cost is reasonable and Azden has engineered this mic to match the Pro-XD—so pick one up for your system. I’ve also used a RODE Smartlav+ microphone with my units and that offers an additional sonic benefit to my ears, but at a considerable price increase over the EX-507XD mic.
Its best to maintain line of sight between the transmitter and receiver, so consider that when deciding where to mount the transmitter on your subject/talent. The belt clip or the Tx is quick, effective and strong, but I’ve used my Pro-XDs with URSA chest/waist belts for better concealment when needed. The small size and light weight of the Pro-XD system is a joy to work with both on the talent as well as mounting on camera. The standard and the EX-507XD microphones are not as easy to hide, so that is often why I would turn to the RODE SmartLav+ with its more compact capsule and items like the Rycote ‘undercovers’ when hiding the microphone is called for.
On one occasion I’ve paired the transmitter with my second receiver and thus been able to record the audio into two separate cameras simultaneously and that was useful…so thank you Azden for that innovative feature! I’ve never used the line-in auxiliary input, but who knows, at some point it may come in handy. I also picked up their adapter so I can connect the 3.5mm audio output to XLR connections. Lightweight wireless system, good range of feature, reliable performance, budget price—overall an excellent value. I would give this 4.5 stars if I could, and five stars if they bundled the EX-507XD microphone at the same price point.

I’ve used this system for a couple of years on video shoots, and it comes in extremely handy when traveling. The 2.4 GHZ frequencies are part of the same license-free band as wi-fi systems, and that means I don’t have to worry about causing any interference when using this kit on overseas trips. I also have a more expensive wireless system that stays home when I travel for that very reason, since it uses frequencies that I’d get in trouble for operating on in other countries. The quality of this system is excellent, but my only caveat is that it’s worth spending a little more to get the upgraded lavalier mic. The standard mic is good, but I’m really picky about my audio. The other advantage to this rig is that you can use it with the included TRRS cable and an Apple mini-plug to Lightning adapter (not included) to do wireless audio when shooting online videos.

I am starting a video block for my real estate business and was looking for some equipment. The staff at B&H helped me pick out some products. They were informative and cost conscious. Being a total novice with this type of equipment and not being one to ready instructions, It was very easy for me to attach to the video camera and record sound within seconds. I have only used two times, to date, but I am sure this is everything that I was expecting, and more.

I am using this wireless set up now and what a savings of time and effort. No more wires, taping down, clean up, etc. My projects are fairly close (in convention breakout rooms) so I don’t need an expensive long distance wireless system. This is just what I need.

If you are looking to buy this product your are making one of the best choices you could make. First week of using this product and has done a great job when it comes to audio. I used this product on our church to broadcast live on our FB Page thru mobile device, aux, mic inputs connections from mixer board to the mobile device(yes this is possible to do)and let me tell you everyone noticed the high quality sound, adding the fact that there were no signal drops or interference, keeping in mind that is a church and there is wifi signals and cellphones all over the building. This product is very light weighted and very handy it does a better job than RodeLink Wireless Filmmaker Kit wich I bought and had returned. I am amazed by this product and trust me you will not be disappointed
