Devin from the DSLR Film Noob blog, YouTube channel and Podcast, posted a very nice review of the SGM-250 and SGM-250p shotgun microphones. Despite a few very minor criticisms, the SGM-250 mics seem to have really held their own in the review:
After using the Azden 250s for the past few weeks, I would say it is on par with the performance of the Rode NTG-2 in terms of audio quality. With a few added features like being able to turn the battery power off (saves battery power without removing it), the 250s really offer up a lot of value. It even comes with a cold shoe mount adapter which is a nice little extra.

And if you haven’t checked it out yet, in the video Devin does some audio tests with the SGM-250, putting it up against the much more expensive Sennheiser MKH416. Most would probably agree the MKH416 does sound better, but as Devin postulates, “Does it sound $700 better than the Azden”? You be the judge.
